Just how many satellites are there in the outer space? ? Steppes in ...

The reason?why technology or science is talked about?is not because it is an absolute truth, but rather because it generates interesting stories __?Song Ho-jun

The space objects now orbiting Earth range from?satellites weighting several tons to pieces of spent rocket bodies weighing only 10 pounds.

How far can your ?Satellite for Dummies? manual take you?

The?Space Surveillance Network?has been tracking space objects since 1957 when the Soviet Union opened the space age with the launch of Sputnik. Since then, the SSN has tracked more than 24,500 space objects orbiting Earth. ?(See Helping Zimbabweans to steppe in sync?and?South Africa attempts to pull the plug on Zimbabwean satellite decoders)

It spot-checks them rather than tracking them continually.?The enormous amount of tracking data comes from SSN sites such as Maui, Hawaii, Eglin, Florida, Thule, Greenland and Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. The data is transmitted directly?via satellite, ground wire, microwave and phone. Every available means of communications is used to ensure a backup is readily available if necessary.

Diego Garcia, a tropical, footprint-shaped coral atoll located south of the equator in the central Indian Ocean. It is part of the British Indian Ocean Territory (BIOT) Forty years ago its population, then numbering about 2,000 people, were expelled by the British government to Mauritius and Seychelles to allow the United States to establish a military base on the island. (Map courtesy of usslave.blogspot.com)

Back in the 1950s,?Sputnik was marked with a red flag?that told America not to take its technological dominance for granted. It was orbiting the planet at 32,186.88 km per hour while emitting a constant radio signal. (See International day of human space flight in Harare)

The SSN currently ?tracks more than 8,000 orbiting objects.?The rest have re-entered Earth?s turbulent atmosphere and disintegrated, or survived re-enty and impacted the Earth.?About seven percent of the space objects are operational satellites, the rest are debris. The United States Strategic Command,?STRATCOM,?is primarily interested in the active satellites, but also tracks space debris. They also track space objects which are 10 centimeters in diameter (baseball size) or larger.

A pronouncing example of such small satellites is a?homemade, basement-built satellite that a?South Korean?Song Ho-jun?has been working on for nearly six years.?An engineering student at university,?Ho-jun?built his $500 OpenSat to show people they could achieve their dreams.?After working as an intern at a private satellite company, he came up with the idea for his ?Open Satellite Initiative,? which in turn led him to contact space professionals from?Slovenia?to Paris.

The cubical OpenSat weighs 1kg and measures 10 cubic centimetres. It will transmit information about the working status of its battery, the temperature and rotation speed of the satellite?s solar panel. Radio operators will be able to communicate with the satellite. If all goes well, it will repeat a message in Morse code using its LED lights at a set time and location.

OpenSat?s?components cost only 500,000 won ($440). But the cost for launching it hit 120 million won after Song signed a contract with NovaNano, a a Lyon-based aerospace company, which acted as a broker to arrange the launch, including submitting paperwork and finding a rocket.

Song Ho-jun of South Korea built a $500 OpenSat satellite to show people they could achieve their dreams. He came up with the idea for his ?Open Satellite Initiative,? which in turn led him to contact space professionals from Slovenia to Paris (Photo from Song Ho-jun?s Facebook profile)

The satellite will be launched from the Russian Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan (the world?s first and largest operational space launch facility) in December. And one hopes that OpenSat will be luckier than?NigComSat-1, the first African geosynchronous communication satellite. (See Adasia: untapping media markets in Central Asia) ?Launched on 13 May 2007, aboard a Chinese Long March 3B carrier rocket from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre (The Sichuan-based facility became operational in 1984 and is primarily used to launch powerful thrust rockets and geostationary communications and weather satellites), NigComSat-1 failed in orbit after running out of power ?in 2008?due to an anomaly in its solar array. (See From Geely in Ukraine to Chery in Zimbabwe: how many China?s global brands can you think of??and Africa-Asia prospects II: more solid research on Africa needed to inform Sino-African relations?)

(NASA/Bill Ingalls)

Historically, as space technology matured, satellites were launched for military and commercial purposes. The price of satellite launches has dropped to as low as a few million dollars for light satellites, and a few tens of millions for heavy satellites. This put satellite technology within the reach of many nations and international companies.

A host of commercial flight options to experience the space conditions is emerging.?Zero Gravity Corporation?(also known as ZERO-G), an Arlington, Virginia-based company, operates weightless flights from United States airports. Unlike NASA, ZERO-G is governed under Part 121 of FAA regulations (as are all US commercial passenger and cargo airlines) enabling the company to cater to both tourists and researchers alike.?The company?Sea Launch?? a consortium of four companies from the United States, Russia, Ukraine and Norway ? has launched a few satellites into orbit from international waters every year, although the company filed for bankruptcy in 2009.

Physicist Stephen Hawking in Zero Gravity?s aircraft

Satellites have an operating lifespan between five and 20 years. As of 2008, the former Soviet Union and Russia had nearly 1,400 satellites in orbit, the USA about 1,000, Japan more than 100, China about 80, France over 40, India more than 30, Germany almost 30, the UK and Canada 25, and at least ten each from Italy, Australia, Indonesia, Brazil, Sweden, Luxembourg, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea. (See I want my TV in Afghanistan?and?Turkey?s soap power)

Some satellites, called microsats, nanosats, or picosats, can be as small as 10 cm (3.937 inches) in diameter and 0.1 kg (0.22 pounds) in mass.?The largest man-made satellite currently in orbit around the Earth is the International Space Station.

Enough about cold metal in the dark vacuum?we wonder?have astronauts ever had sex in space?

What To Sell On The Internet - The Wow Factor - PDF

Putting The WOW Factor
Into Your Home Based
Business

One of a series of articles about internet marketing
and building a home based business brought to
you by Make A Dream Publishing Ltd.
For more information, check out this web site:
http://www.stealamillion.com

Does Your Home Based Business Have A WOW Factor?
Many people who run their own business often find difficulty in trying to actually market what
they do. For many, marketing is a bit of a mystery. Knowing where to start can be a
problem and then what to do next.
For the most part, they have the basics - a web site, Yellow Pages, brochures, leaflets, direct
mail, trade shows and seminars - the usual networking routine. But, is that all there is to
marketing? If it was, then we would all have people queuing up to buy our products!
Sometimes, these processes work, sometimes they don't - the key is consistency - having a
system that works consistently all the time. Find a system that works and then work the
system.
Before going any further I'd like to take a look at definitions of
"marketing".
"Marketing is the use of strategies to generate a constant supply of high-quality leads for
your service business".
This is a very simple and straightforward definition. But how can we apply it to the methods
we use already? The first question is to ask why your current activities are not producing
results. This brings us to the title of this article. What are you doing to create the "Wow"
factor in your marketing activities.
Take a good look at all your brochures, web site, Yellow pages Ads and put them all to the
"so what?" test. Read your sales material out loud. Then ask yourself if your audience
could be listening and saying:
"so what?"
"why do I care?"
"what's in it for me?"
Your ads must tell the audience exactly what is in it for them - you MUST provide a solution
for them with your headline ads and banners. If your advertising and sales copy does not
provide them with a solution to their problem, you may well get a "so what" response.
Address the audience
If you write only about you and the history of your company, the services you can provide
and your level of experience and qualifications, and how you love working together with
people... blah blah blah... guess what? You fail the "so what" test. You are giving nothing to
the audience that they are actually interested in - they want solutions to their problems in a
fixed time scale, preferably.
What you need to do is analyse all your sales material and start over again. Be sure that
your copy material has information that your customers are searching for!
http://whattosellontheinternet.com

These ideas may help
1 Challenge all your sales copy and marketing that do not consistently generate leads for
your business - even ones that worked before. Take a look to see how you can improve
your message and get a higher ROI - then put it to the "Wow" test (Wow - this is for me!)
2 Take a look at your sales letter or web site home page and write out an X each time you
see your name, company, "I" or "me", "my" etc. Then write an O (for ok) for each time it
mention's the customer name and the you/your words. Then make sure you have a higher
O score compared to the X's.
3 Find yourself a small network of friends who can become "critical friends" and ask for
honest feedback about your sales copy - does it push their "wow" button?
4 Do not be afraid of negative feedback - use it constructively and act on it.
5 When you get feedback, analyse and drill down - make sure you fully grasp what it is that
they are telling you - do not simply accept someone's opinion but get to what they feel
personally about the copy they have read.
6 Make sure your message is targeted to the audience you want to reach. Do not sell
apples to a bunch of banana lovers! Be clear about and in your message to be sure your
targeted audience feels their wow-button being pushed.
If you'd like to learn a whole lot more about sales copy, you need to listen to the master of
them all: The 6 Billion Dollar Man you can get this amazing DVD for free as part of an
amazing Internet Marketing package that gives you all the information to get started in
building a successful home based business in easy to follow steps.

Google Refuses Texas AG's Request for Business Documents ...

Kellbot

So much for Google?s promise to cooperate with the Texas attorney general?s investigation of its business practices. With that pledge now two years in the past and gathering dust, the company is taking a decidedly different approach to Texas AG Greg Abbott?s repeated requests for documents it has allegedly been withholding from his office. Having first requested more time to produce the documents demanded of it, Google is now simply refusing to turn them over.

In a legal filing Tuesday, Google answered the suit Abbott filed against it in June demanding some 14,500 internal documents it has been witholding from his office, citing attorney-client privilege by once again arguing that they are protected communications. The email discussions Abbot has requested are indeed privileged, and Google is justified in keeping them under wraps, the company said in its filing.

Abbott?s office will undoubtedly take issue with Google?s response, and for the same reasons it sued the company in June: Many of the documents Google claims as attorney-client privileged aren?t protected because they either A) were never sent to an actual attorney, or B) were not accompanied by a request for legal review. As Abbot argued in his suit, ?Google has not met its burden of demonstrating that the privilege is applicable to many of the documents withheld.?

Google did not respond to a request for comment. News of the company?s filing was first reported by Mlex.

Checkers - 2 players brings simple, classical, gaming fun to iPad

Checkers - 2 players brings simple, classical, gaming fun to iPad

Checkers - 2 players comes from Pacific Helm's dynamic trio of Louis Mantia, Brad Ellis, and Jessie Char, and if you're familiar with their design work, you're likely ignoring this preamble and already downloading. Fair enough. If you're not familiar with their design work, either you've never used software by Apple, Square, Rogue Sheep, the Iconfactory, and Tapulous, or you just don't know how familiar with their work you really are...

Pacific Helm typically does design work for other companies these days, but Checkers - 2 players is the first in what's hopefully a long string of apps and games all their own.

The premise is simple -- Checkers - 2 players is nothing more or less than a virtual checker board set you can carry around, and play with a friend, on your iPad. There's no artificial intelligence to play against, and inevitably train to take over the world. There's just a selection of boards and colors for the pieces, and the classic mechanics of the game.

Move. Jump. Capture. King. Win.

But in style.

It's $4.99 which isn't cheap when it comes to App Store games. That's a good thing. Because at "cheap" this game doesn't get made. Indie developers and designers don't do projects like these. We don't get elegant, beautiful stuff to enjoy. We don't get art.

And that's what this is. That checker set with the plush, inlaid board and perfectly moulded pieces that came in that fancy box you were only allowed to play with on special occasions. Only Checkers - 2 players comes on your iPad, goes wherever your iPad goes, can change colors at the tap of a settings, and can be played whenever you have a partner handy.

Simple. Elegant. Classical. Fun.

Grab it now.
